The rapid rise of EVs – from nascent to mass market

Today, there are 2 million electric vehicles* (EVs) on Europe’s roads, up from around 400,000 at the end of 2015. By 2030, we expect this number to rise to approximately 40 million EVs. The 2020s will be the decade when EVs truly become ‘mass market’.

This rapid rise in EVs has been driven by a number of factors: falling battery costs, governments’ decarbonisation and clear air ambitions, customer demand, vehicle manufacturers investing in new electric models and pivoting away from internal combustion engine vehicles. These trends have been well documented.
